A MESSAGE FROM REV. FRANCIE
March 17, 2020
To the members and friends of Firestone Park Church,
The Session of the Firestone Park Church has decided to cancel all public gatherings at the church for the next two weeks. This includes: - Bible Study and Worship service on March 22 - Bible Study and combined worship service at Allenside Presbyterian on March 29 - Puppet-making meetings on March 18 and 25 - Choir practices on March 19 and 26.
The Session will continue to monitor the situation and extend the cancellations if appropriate. The cancellation of these usual activities in our church building does not mean that “church” is cancelled. In fact, now more than ever, we must continue to be the “church” for each other, even though we are not meeting in person. I hope to contact many of you by phone in the coming days to see how you’re doing and to ask for your help with staying in touch with each other by phone during this time.
This is a difficult time for many people. Being physically isolated from others is hard. For some people, this situation is causing financial challenges. Please let me know if you’re having any problems – we as the church want to be there for our members and friends who are struggling. I hope that those of you who are able will also reach out to your family and friends to make sure they have the care they need.
The Psalms can be a great source of comfort during times like these. Psalm 23, Psalm 46, Psalm 16 and other psalms remind us that we can give voice to our fears and anxieties because God understands our humanness, and God seeks honest relationships with us. And God promises to be with us: “those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
Please be in prayer for our world and our community, for those facing new challenges from this situation and for those who were already facing struggles in their lives.
